No Glue UsedThis modular origami model was constructed entirely without the use of glue or any adhesive. The finished structure holds together securely because of how the units are interlocked by inserting a tab-like part of one unit into a slot or pocket of another.

This lovely kusudama is one of the easier-to-make models in Ekaterina Lukasheva's challenging book. The basic module is not hard to fold and the assembly method is straightforward. However, there is one difficult aspect to the assembly. If made without glue, as here, the components of this model tend to come apart easily during assembly. The lock between one module and another is not strong, due to the small size of the pockets and tabs. The entire structure will hold together better once assembly is complete, but this is definitely a fragile ornament. Making it from stiffer paper, as used here, helps to stabilize it. However, if you really need a sturdier ornament, apply a tiny dab of glue to each tab as you assemble this model. Using glue might be especially wise if young children are going to be handling this decoration.
