[Big Modular Squares]

Each of the big square boxes shown on this page was made from eight sheets of scrapbook paper measuring 12 inches square, either selected from open stock or purchased in pads. The lid of each box was assembled from four units and the base of each box was also assembled from four units, with each unit folded from one sheet of paper.

Scrapbook paper is more difficult to work with than traditional origami paper because it is thicker and stiffer, but those same qualities make it ideal for large boxes intended to hold heavier gifts such as books, music CDs, perfume and lotion sets, picture frames, stationery sets, etc. I have also used these boxes for gifts of home-made baked goods.
