*Note that two numbers are given for the size of the box featured on this page. The larger size number provides a measurent for the longest diameter of the box (Diagram A). The smaller number defines the square space inside the box, which is easiest to see by looking at the bottom of the box (Diagram B).

Comments: | The designer of these delightful star-shaped boxes indicates that the model was inspired by the traditional double-blintzed Spanish Box. It is also similar to, but not identical with, a box designed by Francesco Guarnieri. Govind Kulkarni recommends that you fold these stars from sturdy paper so that they will keep their shape better. If using thin or soft paper, the designer suggests that you apply a little glue at step 12 in the folding process. Double-sided paper works best for this model, since some of the reverse side of the paper is visible on the inside of the box. The paper used here was ideal, being both double-sided and a bit thicker/stiffer than most origami paper. As a result, no glue was needed. These little stars can be used as party favors, or you can make lovely holiday decorations by placing small, battery-operated tea lights in them -- but never use real candles due to fire hazard. |
