[Small Modular Hexagons]

There are several different types of small hexagonal boxes shown on this page, all made with origami paper measuring 5 7/8 inches (15 cm) square -- a standard size in which origami paper is often sold. Double-sided paper works best.

Some of these boxes require 12 sheets of paper -- 6 for the lid and 6 for the base. Others only require 6 sheets of paper -- 3 for the lid and 3 for the base.

In some cases, lids are constructed from 6 rectangular strips obtained by cutting 3 square sheets in half. The lids of these half-sheet hexagons exhibit a domed effect; the dome becomes steeper when stiffer paper is used.
